Citrus Alarm Clock
I’ve said this several times I the past and I think I will never get tired of saying it again and again: the computer, with the right piece of software on its side, can replace several items you have around the house. It can replace your child’s coloring book and your teenage daughter’s diary. It can replace your newspaper, your TV and DVD player, and it can definitely replace your traditional alarm clock.
Putting the spotlight on the later, on replacing your alarm clock, a software application that can do that is the Mark McIntyre-developed and aptly named Citrus Alarm Clock. Here is the sort of functionality you can expect to get from Citrus Alarm Clock:
- Set as many alarms as you want.
- The alarm clock will play your own tracks to wake you up. Speaking of which, the music will fade in gently so as not to startle you.
- The alarm clock can also play video files. Any media format Windows Media Player supports, Citrus Alarm Clock supports as well.
- The Space bar is the equivalent of the Snooze button on traditional alarm clock. The middle button on your mouse is the equivalent of the Snooze button as well.
- If your computer goes to sleep, Citrus Alarm Clock will wake it up before playing the alarm.
- Animated alarm time display.
- Extensive language support.
Before you go get Citrus Alarm Clock and put it to the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 1.1MB, which is quite lightweight. It will only take a moment to get Citrus Alarm Clock off the web and onto your computer.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Citrus Alarm Clock works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Citrus Alarm Clock requires Windows Media Player and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
Limitations – you can use Citrus Alarm Clock free of charge only for a trial period of 30 days.

Pros
- Downloads and installs rapidly
- Easy to use, attractive interface
- Plays your own tracks; you can create playlists; music fades in
- Can launch an external media player and it will play the media file you selected for an alarm
- Set up multiple alarms
- Wakes up computer from sleep mode
- Multilingual support
Cons
- The computer has to be running for Citrus Alarm Clock to play an alarm. Personally I find it difficult to fall asleep when I hear the computer’s fan noise in the background. I can just as easily set multiple alarms on my phone, have it play my own tracks, and fade in the music so it doesn’t startle me. And the phone has a Snooze button as well.
